Separation Anxiety

What is separation anxiety?

Imagine having a fear of being left alone. Now imagine having that fear but being left alone nearly every day. How anxious would you feel? That’s what separation anxiety is – your dog is so anxious about being left alone that they can’t cope with no one nearby.

Does my dog have separation anxiety?

Have you had noise complaints from your neighbours or the council about your dog barking or howling when you’re not home?
Have you often had to clean up accidents of the toilet variety when your furry friend’s left alone?
Are you frustrated with how much of the home your dog has chewed up?
Do you feel worried when you’ve left your dog alone not knowing what you might find on your return home?

All seeming a little too familiar? If you’ve answered yes to any of the above, your dog may have separation anxiety.

Luckily, you don’t have to deal with it alone – as a Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer, I can help your dog learn to relax when you’re away from them.

Dog Seperation Anxiety Training

How is separation anxiety treated?

First up, it’s about calming your canine friend down – by agreeing to not have your dog left alone for longer than they can cope with.
Then, it’s time for me to create your personalised training plan – this gets updated daily based on your daily feedback.
Each week, we’ll come together through a live video assessment so I can see how your dog is progressing and adjust your plan to suit.
While separation anxiety is treatable, there is no quick fix – it will take commitment and work on your part, but I’ll be there every step of the way.

Why is it all online?

Although dog training has traditionally been done in the home, the best results for separation anxiety come when your dog’s routine isn’t disrupted by me being there. We’ll connect over live video sessions on Zoom, Skype, or Facetime so that I can get a clear, honest perspective of what your dog’s true behaviour is like when you’re getting ready to leave them.

Good venue, less distractions and good space

Preferred methods used compared to other training courses we have been to in the past. Very happy with the outcome!

Easy to follow handbook, bite sized chunks of homework that everyone can handleReally liked the small classEasy to talk to Kelly about things and a great trainer and teacher.

Great teaching methods

Very clear and simple steps Lots of fun for me and my puppy!

Although Jett is a 12 year old Labrador his behaviour was often like that of a 12 week old puppy. We worked with Kelly to stop him getting so excited when visitors arrived and to stop his attention seeking behaviour.  By the end of Kelly’s training Jett was able to go and sit on his bed when visitors arrived and he would leave visitors alone when asked to. Kelly was great to work with and had some really good ideas that all contributed to changing Jett’s behaviour.

Great experience. Simple, practical training for pooch and people

Very informative and video links very useful to help with homework

Two years ago Muffi came to join our family. Unfortunately due to Muffi’s background she came with lots of baggage. When Muffi was ready for training I realised it would need to be a special person. A small advertisement in a local magazine sent me down a track both here & Australia to find Kelly from Happy Pawes. I have not been disappointed. Kelly has given us all the help and assistance required to help Muffi adjust to a new world outside the home. I would highly recommend Kelly and her method of training to all dog owners and especially dogs like Muffi with special needs.
